Montpelier to Grelen and Return, Easy 6 Miles. Optional Big Woods Walk 2 miles

We’ll walk from James Madison’s Montpelier to The Market at Grelen and Back approximately 6 miles roundtrip. Moderate pace. Rolling terrain with flat/2 abreast easy trails. No charge, dogs on leash welcome.

Many things are interpreted along the way. Woods on Montpelier property give way to acres of shrubs/trees at Grelen. The walk to Grelen will take about 1 hour and then we’ll take a break. Then return arriving back at Montpelier before 1pm. We’ll eat lunch at Montpelier (café and outside food allowed).

After lunch we'll do the Big Woods Walk for 1-2 miles. Montpelier says: "The Landmark Forest and Demonstration Forest trails consist of a series of interlocking loops covering a total of 2.5 miles and designed to lead visitors along nature trails that showcase the variety and majesty of Montpelier’s old-growth and transitional forests."

Meet at Montpelier’s Rubenstein Visitor Center parking lot at the Map Kiosk. Enter Montpellier and follow Visitor Center signs. Note the legal address is NEXT TO Montpelier’s entrance.

Bathrooms, water and food available at Montpelier and the Market at Grelen. Outside food allowed at Montpelier.
