National Trail Days Joint Work Hike with the PATC - Charlottesville Chapter
Details
Joint Work Hike with the PATC-Charlottesville Chapter to clean up a section of the Great Eastern Trail (GET). The Great Eastern Trail is America's newest long distance trail - 1800 miles long and crossing nine states. http://www.greateasterntrail.net/
GET Board Chair (and former PATC President) Tom Johnson calls this section "the missing link" in Virginia because it is difficult to get trail workers for this part of the trail. It is a 90 minute drive from Charlottesville, and is located in eastern Bath County north of Douthat State Park.
There are not enough local trail workers to keep this section in shape, and it looks it! We will be removing blowdowns and cleaning up this 1.1 mile section of trail. This is one time where, with many helping hands, we can make a huge difference on the trail in a short amount of time.
On the way back, there will be an optional stop at at the brand new Skipping Rock Brewery, constructed in part by a PATC member. Skipping Rock has a food truck. Carpools can be arranged accordingly for those desiring to stop or not.
What to Bring - broken in hiking boots, tools if you have them (saws, clippers, loppers, work gloves, etc.), lunch/snacks, 3 to 4 liters of water, sunscreen, moisture wicking clothing (not cotton) - long pants/sleeves, camera/phone, personal first aid kit. No dogs for this one, please! There is not a long hike in to the work site.
