Beautiful 9-Mile Stretch of the Appalachian Trail - South District – SNP

Details
Let's hike a beautiful 9-Mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail in the South District of the Shenandoah National Park. This will be a point-to-point hike starting from the parking lot for the Ivy Creek Overlook and finishing at Smith Roach Gap. This section of the AT will include scenic overlooks from a couple of locations including: Ivy Creek and in the vicinity of Powell Gap. On our trek we will also pass by Pinefield Hut - one of the numerous AT three-sided shelters found throughout SNP. This should also be a section of the AT with a nice array of showy, blooming wildflowers.
What to bring:
Please bring plenty of water and wear broken-in hiking boots/shoes. We will be taking a nice, well deserved break for lunch at the mid-way point of our hike - so bring lunch and snacks!!
Important to know:
Drive time from Charlottesville to the trailhead is approximately 1 hour.
Fees & Such:
Of course for the carpool to work, some have to offer to drive so others can ride. Riders, please give your driver $5.00 to cover their expenses.
Meet in the parking lot in front of Great Outdoor Provision by 8:30AM or if you live North of Charlottesville meet at the Swift Run Gap entrance station to Shenandoah National by 9:15AM.
