Hike Details - I am changing this hike to a more a moderate hike given the forecast high temperatures for Saturday. This hike was originally a strenuous hike. I have made the decision to change this hike to an out and back moderate hike along the Nicholson Hollow Trail to Corbin Cabin. We are going to be meeting at 8:15 AM at the North Research Park. We are going to carpool to the Old Rag Parking Area on Rt. 600 near Nethers, Virginia. From the Old Rag Parking Area, we are going to road walk to the Nicholson Hollow Trail. We are going to hike the Nicholson Hollow Trail 4 miles to the Corbin Cabin. Along this stretch of trail, we are going to have multiple stream crossings, multiple small waterfalls, and multiple swimming holes that we can cool off in during the hike. We can make as many stops as needed on this hike to cool down or go for a swim. We are going to have lunch at Corbin Cabin, our turn around point for this hike. After lunch we will retrace our steps back to the cars at the Old Rag Parking Area. I am going to ask that you bring water shoes or sandals and a change of clothes if you are going to go for a swim.
As is tradition with my hikes, there will be an optional post hike at a local restaurant or brewery. Carpools can be arranged accordingly, for those who wish to partake in the post hike.
What to Bring - Broken in hiking boots, water shoes/swimwear (required if you desire to go into one of the swimming holes), trekking poles, $5 for your driver if not driving, moisture wicking clothing, lunch/snacks, camera/phone, 4 to 5 liters of water, first aid kit, good daypack, Annual Shenandoah National Park pass if you have one
