Disclaimer #1 - This is the first in a series of five hikes for the month of August of hikes that I have not done. I will not have the opportunity to prehike any of these hikes or most of these trails. All hikers are going to start the hike on the wait list until I can verify the hiking experience of all hikers on the wait list. Those, who have not hiked with me before, will need to answer the following questions.
- How often do you hike?
- What strenuous hikes have you done?
- When and what was the last strenuous hike that you completed?
The answers to the above questions can be emailed to me at patrickcory@hotmail.com or via Meetup messages. First time hikers have a week to answer the questions before being moved to NOT GOING.
Hike Details - This is the first of five exploratory hikes that I have not done. This is a s circuit hike in the George Washington National Forest on the Massanutten Ridge. We are going to start by meeting shortly before 8:00 AM at the North Research Park to form carpools to the trailhead on Crisman Hollow Road. We are going to start the hike at the trail crossing on Crisman Hollow Road. We are going to make the short climb up to the ridge line using the Massanutten Trail. For the next four plus miles of hiking, we will have ridge line views and rock outcroppings. It will culminate with the short climb up to the best view of the hike at the junction with the Jawbone Gap Trail. We are going to turn right and descend on the Jawbone Gap Trail to Crisman Hollow Road. We are going to cross Crisman Hollow Road and climb up the Creek Gap Trail to the junction with the Scothorn Gap Trail. We are going to continue on the Scothorn Gap Trail to the junction with the Massnutten Trail. We are going to follow the Massanutten Trail uphill and back to the cars at the trail crossing at Crisman Hollow Road. Please make sure to review the hike link below before signing up for this hike.
