Hike Details - It is that time of year again to make the trip down to one of my favorite hikes in Virginia: the Dragon's Tooth hike. This hike has a lot in 5.7 miles of hiking. There is a half mile rock scramble before reaching the Dragon's Tooth, amazing views, and the rock scramble up the Dragon's Tooth. We are going to start the hike by forming carpools shortly before 8:00 AM at the Fontaine Research Park. From the Research Park, we are going to make our way down to the Dragon's Tooth trailhead on Rt. 311. From the parking area, we are going to hike the Dragon's Tooth Trail up to the intersection with the Appalachian Trail. We are going to turn right onto the Appalachian Trail and begin the fun part of this hike. In the next 0.7 miles, we are going to make the steep climb up to the Dragon's Tooth. We will have U rungs, rock scrambles, and a couple of rock faces to navigate as we make our way up to the Dragon's Tooth. Once we arrive at the Dragon's Tooth, we will take turns climbing up the Tooth and enjoying the 360 degree views from the top of the Tooth. After having fun on the Tooth, soaking in the views, eating lunch, and taking a whole lot of pictures, we will retrace our steps back to the Dragon's Tooth Trail. We are going to continue on the Appalachian Trail to more vistas that most people do not visit. We will continue on the Appalachian Trail to the Boy Scout Connector Trail. We will turn left onto the Boy Scout Connector Trail and complete the circuit and retrace our steps back to the parking area. Please make sure to review the hike link below before signing up for this hike.
As is tradition with my hikes, there will be an optional post hike at a local restaurant or brewery. Carpools can be arranged accordingly for those, who wish to partake in the post hike.
