The Chessie Nature Trail is a seven-mile, year-round public access walking/hiking trail between Lexington and Buena Vista, located along the former Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad right of way. The trail has a relatively flat grade with a gravel and dirt surface, and follows the contours of the Maury River. There are currently no facilities on the trail, so plan a visit accordingly. The trail is most suitable for walking and running, as several fixed gates make the trail less suitable for bicycles. The trail goes through private lands, including active cattle farms. Exercise caution and respect.

Dogs are permitted, but must be leashed at all times. Pack out all litter.

The trail is publicly listed as 7 miles in length. For our outing, we will do a point-to-point hike covering approximately 6.5 miles. And since this will be a Point-to-Point outing, it will require a car shuttle before our journey begins. Arrangements for the car shuttle will be made upon our arrival at the trailhead in Lexington, VA.

For more trail info, description, and maps you can visit the VMI website

What To Wear & Bring:

>I would suggest bringing a daypack too
