GetHiking! the Piedmont Explorer visits Hanging Rock
Details
Each month, our Piedmont Explorer program hikes a different trail network in the region. Some (Medoc Mountain, Howell Woods) you may not be familiar with. Others, such as Hanging Rock State Park, may well be on your radar.
So if you've hiked here before, you likely would love to hike it again. And if you haven't, here's your chance to tray some of the best hiking in the Piedmont. On Saturday's agenda:
- We will start with the 4.7-mile Moore's Knob Trail. From the Visitor Center, we'll hike down to the lake, around the bathhouse, then through a tunnel of mountain laurel and rhododendron. After about a mile and a half, we start to climb; in another half mile, we start to really climb — but not for long: It mellows as we achieve Moore's Wall's rocky spine. We'll spend a few minutes atop Moore's Knob, taking in the view, then continue back to the Visitor Center.
- After a short intermission, we'll hike a half mile down the Indian Creek Trail, taking in both Hidden and Window falls.
Enjoy springlike weather (finally!) and learn about our Piedmont Explorer program.
