We're celebrating Mountains-to-Sea Trail (http://ncmst.org) Month with a series of Saturday hikes celebrating the statewide trail's new path from Raleigh to the coast, the Coastal Crescent route.
Nineteen miles of the MST run through the nearly 50,000-acre Holly Shelter Game Lands, a collection of pocosin (upland swamp) and pine savannah. We won't hike all 19 miles (though we can drive the route after the hike, if you like); rather, on this, the second hike in our series, we'll hike a network of trail and gravel road for about 7 miles. We'll be joined by a knowledgeable source or two who can enlighten us on this coastal environment.
The trail is flat, really flat, but there is soft sand in places, which can give the games a workout.
More information will be posted on this hike soon, at the Great Outdoor Provision Co. web site (http://greatoutdoorprovision.com/).
