GetHiking! Explorer Series: Foothills Trail
Details
One of backpacker Scott Hicks' goals is to hike California's John Muir Trail. At 211 miles, the JMT may not be the nation's longest trail, but thru-hiking it requires a great degree of planning, more so than trails considerably longer. In preparation, he thought he might tackle a shorter long trail. He opted for the 77-mile Foothills Trail straddling the North Carolina/South Carolina line. So he did, hiking trail in six days in 2015.
In many ways, the Foothills Trail is the ideal starter thru-hike, requiring enough planning to put your organizational skills to the test, but short enough that it won't punish you for your mistakes. At least not severely.
Come hear Scott talk about the hike and the planning that went into it. Scott will talk for a bit, show slides from the hike and leave plenty of time for questions.
