Thanks to Hollywood and some great books out there, backpacking has piqued the interest of many. The romance of traveling the wilderness with everything you need on your back, lying awake at night listening to the trees rustling in the wind and the gentle call of birds.

But then reality hits and you wonder if it’s really for you. Will I even like sleeping in a tent? What about bears? How will I eat? What if it rains? You’re not even sure if you want to enroll in an intro to backpacking course because, well, what if you don’t like it?

This class is for anyone who likes the idea of backpacking but isn’t quite ready to commit to an intro course. We’ll provide the highlights and an opportunity to spend the night camping at a primitive campground (that means no showers) so you can determine if the experience is something you want to pursue.

We’ll start out Saturday afternoon with a 2-mile hike, we’ll arrive at camp where you’ll find the tents already set up for you. You’ll unpack and set up your “home” for the night. Dinner will be supplied and everyone can get a taste of the variety of meals available. We’ll discuss things to consider in the backcountry, what to expect on a backpacking trip, and answer any questions over a camp fire. You can retire to your tent at your leisure. After breakfast, we’ll pack up camp and hike 2 miles out with packs.
