GetHiking! Saturday Morning at Duke Forest
Details
Back in the 1920s, much of the 7,052 acres that now make up Duke
Forest was purchased as part of the school’s transition from Trinity College. Today, the land is divided into six divisions and one natural
area spread across Alamance, Durham and Orange counties. Hiking on these tracts is largely on gravel forest service roads that are closed to traffic and make for nice social hikes (one of the attractions of this particular trail).
The hike starts and ends flat, but has some good climbs in between. Depending upon water levels, we may have a side trip along New Hope Creek.
This hike will be about 5 miles on hilly terrain. Rate it Moderate in difficulty.
