This will be an out and back hike for 7 miles(3.5 one way) starting at the Fall Lake dam's Tailrace fishing area and ending at Raven Ridge Road. Parking can be found at the dam area or across the road at the Neuse River Greenway parking lot. There will be open facilities at the start.

As for Section 1 itself, the southeast end has a surprising, for the Piedmont, amount of elevation, with a third-of-a-mile climb gaining more than 100 feet from near the trailhead. Past the Falls Lake Visitor Center, the trail is more characteristic of the rest of the MST along Falls Lake, dipping in and out of coves and spending quality time along the lake.

As always, dress in layers, bring water, snacks and sturdy hiking shoes are a must. Hiking sticks are also a nice addition.
