Want to learn how to build your own website? Already have your own website but want to have more control over it? Interested in learning to program but want to start small? This class is for you!
We will guide you through the basics of HTML, give you some readily-applicable skills, and answer any questions you may have along the way.
About the teacher:

Brian is the sometimes programming, sometimes product managing, sometimes marketing Director of Client Services for SmartLogic (http://smartlogic.io/). He taught himself all of the bad programming habits you can find, and through the sheer magnanimity of the kind developers around him was shown a few proper ways to write code. As such, he looks for any opportunity to help new programmers find their way while avoiding the mistakes he made. In his free time he enjoys writing code (nerd), playing guitar, and contemplating the meaning of life.
Please bring/install the following on your computer prior to class:
• Your laptop and charger. Note: A netbook or tablet is NOT a substitute. If you need a laptop to use in class, please contact us! Code in the Schools (http://codeintheschools.org/) has a few laptops they are generous enough to let us borrow if needed, but we must arrange this ahead of time.
• A code editor installed. (We recommend Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.5.3.html) for Windows and SublimeText 2 (http://www.sublimetext.com/2) for Windows or Mac. Both are free.)
• A modern browser with either Chrome (https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/) and the "Web Developer" (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/web-developer/bfbameneiokkgbdmiekhjnmfkcnldhhm)extension or Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/) and Firebug (http://getfirebug.com/) installed.
You can take a sneak peak at the slides here: http://www.girldevelopit.com/materials . Look for the HTML and CSS core curriculum. This meetup will cover Class 1 materials.
