You took Intro to HTML/CSS, and learned a great what? In this class, we'll be building a single-page website with all the new hotness: HTML5 for semantical structure and CSS3 for sweet visual flourishes like gradients, rounded corners, and drop shadows. The latest CSS specification provides advanced selectors, graphical enhancements, and better font support that make our sites more visually appealing without using font image replacement techniques, complex JavaScript, or graphics tools.

We'll also try out some more advanced techniques, like CSS animations and responsive design, and we'll talk about some flashy HTML5 features that do require JavaScript.

To get the most out of this class, you should have a working knowledge of basic HTML and CSS. You may have taken Intro to HTML through Girl Develop It, or maybe you have built a site for fun.

HTML/CSS Knowledge Requirements:

To help you gauge whether or not this class is a good fit given your current skill set, you must take this mandatory quiz ( Anything better than 70% should allow you to follow along in the class. A review will be provided before we start the new material and you can view the material from our class on our website ( (look under the "Intermediate HTML/CSS"). If you have additional questions, feel free to post them below.

About your Teacher:

Jamie is a designer and front-end developer working and living north of Boston. She studied Graphic Design at Massachusetts College of Art & Design and began a career within the print world. She eventually got bored and frustrated that there was a limit to what she could create - that’s when she decided to learn to code. Jamie has a passion for building a beautiful and useable web and is excited to share this with the amazing members of the GDI community.

Tech Requirements:

- A modern laptop bought within the last 5 years (Note: a netbook or tablet is NOT a substitute!)

- Google Chrome installed (or Firefox is ok).

- A text editor installed. We recommend Sublime Text 2 (It's free and available for both Mac and PC).

Please note that we cannot issue refunds, since there's an overhead to issuing refunds via and we already offer the workshops at such a low-cost. Missed sessions can be made up if the course is offered again with the same instructor. Please contact the GDI organizer of the event within 24 hours.
