JavaScript is the world's most popular programming language for a reason: It's the primary way to build interactive experiences on the web. Once you've learned HTML/CSS, learning JavaScript is a logical next step!

Many programming courses end up glossing over some tricky words like 'variable', 'object', and 'method.' If those words are confusing to you now, no worries! You're exactly who we want to teach. This course is designed for beginners new to programming concepts, so you'll learn to program -- from the ground up -- with JavaScript.

In this class, we will be covering:

  • basic development concepts
  • writing our own JavaScript functions
  • browser events
  • web animation
  • an introduction to the jQuery library

Students will exit this class with a good grasp of basic programming principles and an understanding of how to manipulate HTML elements.

Schedule:

The class will take place over 4 Tuesday evenings in January.

• Tuesday, January 8, 6:30-8:30 pm

• Tuesday, January 15, 6:30-8:30 pm

• Tuesday, January 22, 6:30-8:30 pm

• Tuesday, January 29, 6:30-8:30 pm

Your payment registers you for the entire series.

Prerequisites:
We suggest having a working knowledge of HTML and CSS as a prerequisite for this course. This course is specifically for beginners and we highly advise experienced developers to not take this class.

Note: All attendees are expected to abide by the Girl Develop It Code of Conduct (http://www.girldevelopit.com/codeofconduct)

Tech Requirements:
• Your laptop. (Note: a netbook or tablet is NOT a substitute!)

• A modern browser such as Chrome (https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/) or Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/) installed.

• A text editor. We recommend Sublime Text 3 (http://www.sublimetext.com/3) (It's free and available for Mac/PC/Linux). You can also use Notepad++ (https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v7.5.4.html) or Atom (https://atom.io/).
