What we're about
Want to learn how to code? Have a great idea? Don't be shy. Develop it!
Girl Develop It (https://www.girldevelopit.com/) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable and accessible technology classes for women in a judgement-free environment.
Whether you want to advance your own knowledge of technology for your current job, or are looking to transition into a more tech-minded job, we're here to help get you the skills you need!
Courses we offer on a rotating basis:
• Intro to HTML / CSS
• Intro to Responsive Web Design
• Intro to the Command Line
• Intro to Git and Github
• Intro to UX
• Intro to SQL
"I'm a guy. Can I come?"
Girl Develop It welcomes all genders and identities to our classroom. By entering this group, all community members agree to abide by our Code of Conduct (https://www.girldevelopit.com/code-of-conduct).
"Do you teach kids? / Can I bring my kids?"
Our organization is not equipped to teach anybody under the age of 18. As such, we do not offer kids classes. We cannot teach students under the age of 18, even with a guardian present. Check out the Girls Empowerment Network (http://genaustin.org/) or ChickTech (http://chicktech.org/) for curriculum for children.
"Why do you charge for your classes?"
Our instructors are all professionals at the top of their field, and we pay them for their time. Teaching a class, prepping material, slides, and resources is a time-consuming task. For those reasons, we pay our instructors and your class fee ensures our instructors and organizers are paid for their time.
"I don't see any upcoming classes"
That likely means we're taking a quick break between "course tracks." Subscribe to this meetup to be alerted when a new class is added.
"I have an event / job posting / volunteer opportunity that your members will really like. Can you help promote it?"
We love connecting with other groups in Indianapolis to build a better community for everyone in tech. If you'd like us to promote your event, job posting, or volunteer opportunity, please help us understand how this opportunity is friendly and welcoming towards women or people just getting started in tech, so we can assess if it will be a good fit for our audience before promoting it.
