Description: This PHP Open Source Tutorial is open to the public. Men and Women are both welcome. Be part of this non-profit effort to build ways for Cubans on the island to access the internet, gain information, and find opportunities to improve their lives.
How would you like to be one of the people who bring Twitter access to Cuba?
In this session, students will learn intermediate PHP skills, Object Oriented Programming, how to use Smarty templates, working with XML files, working with Github, and much more. Some previous education on PHP is required, please watch introductory PHP learning videos prior to this tutorial, if needed.
By the end of this tutorial, you will have granted access to Twitter to people in Cuba, and messages from Cuba can be viewed in realtime! You will also have the skills to continue being part of this open source community and write other services of your choice to expose more of the Internet to users in Cuba. Be part of this effort to change the world!

Salvi Pascual is a tech innovator, entrepreneur, and university professor who has been working for more than ten years programming, designing and leading multidisciplinary teams. He achieved a master's degree in Computer Science from Florida International University, incorporated his business, pulled off a small team and launched Apretaste, a non-profit offering free internet access to over 27,000 cubans. In his start-up, Salvi is the lead software architect, business strategist, and partner liason, working to find growth opportunities. Salvi loves traveling and strives to not be the worst pool player in the world.
