GDI Philly Community Town Hall & Planning Session
Details
Please join us from 12 to 3PM on Saturday, January 19th for a community town hall and planning session. You are welcome to arrive at any time between 12 and 3 to join the discussion.
This event will serve as a safe place for the GDI Philly community to be together, discuss recent events, and plan next steps together. You can read more about recent events, including a timeline of events, at http://an-open-letter-to-gdi-board.com/
All attendees must abide by the GDI Code of Conduct while at this event. https://www.girldevelopit.com/code-of-conduct
The goals of this event are to:
-
Facilitate in-person community time so we can see each other, meet new people, and provide each other with support.
-
Provide an update on the state of GDI and answer questions regarding the events mentioned above. Recommended pre-reading will be sent to attendees in advance so that we can focus the majority of this event on how to move forward together.
-
Plan and brainstorm the future of this community together with focus on the following topics:
-
What are the most critical needs of this community? How can we meet these needs without causing continued harm? How can we better reduce barriers and prioritize the needs of marginalized people?
-
Brainstorm ways to connect those with time and expertise in the community with those in need of help and mentorship.
-
Review of organizations doing diversity and inclusion work and what support we can offer them. Everyone is encouraged to bring recommendations of orgs and resources to share with the group.
Are you interested in volunteering at this event, or do you have an idea to make it better? We need your help! Please contact suzie@girldevelopit.com for more information.
Are you a member of the press? You are welcome to attend in your capacity as a community member, but conversations among members will be considered “off the record”.
Unable to attend, but still want to participate? Stay tuned for a form that will allow you to weigh in and contribute online. There will be no remote call-in option to help those physically present feel safe participating fully in the discussion. Anonymized minutes and next steps will be shared after the event.
