POSTPONED: What the tech? Begin your journey into tech

This introductory class is for people who are considering a career in tech, people who are pursuing tech-adjacent roles and people who want to be more tech independent.

This course is aimed at people who want to know the very basics. If you already know what a server is or if you've built a live website, this class might be redundant. Of course, if you're looking to ensure your basic understand, please come along.

This one-part course runs Wednesday May 29 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The first hour is structured content then we'll use the remaining time to answer your questions.

CLASS OVERVIEW

This one-hour workshop covers the fundamentals of web development in layman terms. This is a no-code workshop. It covers basic concepts like the difference between a client and a server, the difference between backend and front end code, the tools needed to develop a website, and the typical web development team. This class is for people with little to no technical experience.

In addition to the workshop, we've allotted an additional half hour or so to answer questions.

PREREQUISITES & TECH REQUIREMENTS

Absolutely none. Bring your curious mind.

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Ruthie is an Application Developer. Before making the leap into tech, she took classes right here at GDI Philly. She loves to see people succeed in class and beyond. When not stopping strangers on the train to tell them about GDI, Ruthie can be found dancing, studying on Lynda, ignoring housework and writing lists.

REFUNDS AND WAITLIST

GDI does not offer refunds. If you need to cancel for any reason, your payment will go toward supporting our scholarship fund for students in financial need. If the class is rescheduled, moved to a different location, or canceled by GDI, all participants will be refunded.

Unfortunately, GDI cannot offer a waitlist. If the class is full, please keep an eye on the comments to see if another student is interested in selling their ticket to you. Once sold, send a message via Meetup or an email to the class organizer to confirm the transfer and DO NOT CHANGE YOUR RSVP.

CLASS FREQUENCY

We aim to offer this class twice per year. Timing varies based on teacher and venue availability. Keep an eye on our Meetup page for future class announcements.
