Class 2 Recap!

Hi friends!

Hope your Labor day is treating you awesomely! We're halfway through our course and have covered a LOT of material. This means reviewing the slides and links and trying the homework becomes more and more important. Hows the homework coming? Remember if you have any questions to send a message or even better, post a message on the Facebook page as maybe someone else has the same question or an answer! The group page is here: http://www.facebook.com/groups/214259761963917/

I had mentioned I was going to checkout better font statistics. Here's one survey that shows what is installed most commonly per platform: http://www.codestyle.org/css/font-family/sampler-CombinedResults.shtml. Also this page studies different combinations of font-stacks and provides a designers take on what the best back up fonts to use are in case your users don't have your preferred font: http://unitinteractive.com/blog/2008/06/26/better-css-font-stacks/. Really helpful stuff there!

We talked a little bit about speed of classes and IDs. If anyone is interested in a more thorough take on it, here's a great article: http://oli.jp/2011/ids/

Lastly a question came up about tools or frameworks to help out. These are two popular CSS frameworks that people like:

http://www.blueprintcss.org/

Frameworks like these help you set up a grid system to lay out your designs.

All the links to slides are here: http://jennlukas.com/gdi/

Have a great rest of your holiday and see y'all on Thursday!

-Jenn
