One Night, 2 Lectures!
This meetup will feature two amazing lectures by two amazing women in tech! Join us at STACK to listen to two fascinating talks from Tracey Berg-Fulton and Rachel McGrane. At the end of the talks, we'll walk over to the Sharp Edge for some food, drinks, and further conversation! "Hit it With a Hammer or Light it on Fire: Lessons on Being a Newbie Developer From an Old Car" Tracey Berg-Fulton Buying a busted old car has made me a better developer, and better mechanic. I'll talk about doing things you've never been taught to do, how to be comfortable in terrifying situations, how pairing can be beneficial for novice developers AND mechanics, and navigating potentially hostile communities. ----- "Building Gender Inclusivity into the Web" Rachel McGrane As a trans person working in the web industry, I try to make design decisions that make it a little bit easier for us to use the web. From providing an easy way to change your name to even account security and privacy, changes like these can lead to making your trans users feel safe. However, cis people need to be aware of how to design for us as well. To truly be inclusive of all genders, these adjustments can’t just be made on a case-by-case basis. Trans inclusivity needs to be baked into our design system and how we think about building our websites and apps. This talk would explore some of the problems we face trying to use cisnormative websites and how we can not only try to remedy the safety and inclusivity problems in the short term but also foster an environment wherein figuring out solutions to these problems is integrated into the design process. We are deeply sorry, but this location is not handicap accessible. We will look into ways to record the two talks if possible and post the video details in this meetup description. Thank you again to Stack for allowing us to use their space! If you are interested in a membership at Stack co-working space, please contact them through their site: !

What we're about

Public Group

Want to learn how to code? Have a great idea? Don't be shy. Develop it. It can be intimidating for women to learn and ask questions when they are in an extreme minority. While open and welcoming, today's budding developer community is up to 91% male. There isn't a comfortable place where women can learn at their own pace and not be afraid to ask "stupid questions." We decided it was time to provide a place where all questions are OK and everyone can learn in a supportive environment. Our courses focus on coding, leveraging existing technology, and having something to show for it (aka building sweet websites).

If you are new to the group, please fill out our survey. This will help us tailor our events to your needs!
