Intro to Web Typography

Details
Okay, so you’ve figured out how to get content on the page and how to get a functional layout. You’ve got images and videos and you’ve even got things responding to different device sizes. But have you taken a step back to see if the most important part of your page, the words, are truly working for the people viewing your site? The goal of this class is to help you transform the words in your projects into readable and beautiful typographic systems. We’ll be looking at typography fundamentals and how to adapt them to the web, how to work with some of the most popular web typography platforms, and how to harness new features and abilities to boost your work to new heights.
TAKEAWAYS
-
Learn how to use typefaces beyond the system defaults.
-
Learn how to take your typography beyond readable to beautiful.
-
Learn to work with two popular web font services (Google Fonts and Typekit).
PREREQS & PREPARATION
Please bring along a laptop and charger. You can either use Codepen (http://codepen.io/) for the work required, or feel free to use the code editor of your choice (we recommend Sublime Text: http://www.sublimetext.com/). We'd advise setting up a Codepen account ahead of time if you plan to use it. Don't worry, it's fast and free!
