DECIPHERING A JOB POSTING

One of the hardest parts of any job search is understanding the job listing. Do they really want you to know 5 different languages? How can they want 10 years of React.js experience for a junior position? It says Javascript in the headline, but they only mention Java, what do I do?

If you have ever had any of these questions or similar ones, join Girl Develop It and Tech Ladies for a session on deciphering job listings! Learn how to read between the lines to figure out what they really want from a potential employee with Toni Warren (The Iron Yard, Suncoast Developer’s Guild).

Tech Ladies is a community of 30,000 women and nonbinary people in tech! We hold meetups and events all over the US and Canada and we are excited to bring the Tech Ladies community to Tampa Bay. For questions, contact the Tampa Bay city organizers [masked].

ABOUT TONI WARREN
Toni was born in South Carolina, raised in Virginia, and lives in Florida, where she learned to love the southeast, sunny weather, and Chihuahuas. After receiving her MBA at the University of Tampa, she began to share the impact of how technology can help nonprofit organizations touch more people. Her passion is people and believes technology can help people achieve better results, quicker.

As former Campus Director of The Iron Yard, she understands the needs of talented developers and local employers. She is now proud to serve as the President of the Suncoast Developers Guild, where our mission is to provide those seeking an education in software development with the technical and soft skills they need to pursue rewarding careers as programmers. We also seek to promote a sense of community among local technology organizations, supporting members in a way that strengthens our community and promotes the common good.

From managing the start-up of The Iron Yard code academy in St. Petersburg, organizing tech meet ups, captaining Software Engineering and Web Development tracks of Tampa Bay Startup Week, to providing volunteer kids coding classes and speaking on disruptive educational models, Toni has proven herself to be a transformational influence within Tampa Bay. Her unyielding commitment to critical workforce development will propel the City of Tampa and surrounding region to new heights in national recognition.
