Help us get more women in senior leadership roles. Many Australian businesses has trouble retaining promising women or promoting them into top jobs. A direct reaction to this phenomenon is more women are starting small businesses. Australian women are starting small businesses at twice the rate of men.
Source: smh.com.au; More women than men taking the plunge into small business

Why it matters

A bevy of research highlights strong statistical correlations among large numbers of senior women, financial performance, and organizational health. The bottom line: companies gain hard business benefits from a more diverse senior team.

Secrets of Success Series

Imagine if you could attend a dinner party with fascinating women who have achieved notoriety and succeeded highly in their field. What would you want to know about them? What questions would you ask them?

In 2012, we’re inviting women in leadership roles who have excelled in their area of expertise. These women work in corporations, agencies and across multiple industries including education. They will have lots of stories to share about their experiences and career. The agenda is relaxed to allow for natural, flowing conversations amongst guests and Girl Geek Dinner Members.

How you can get involved

Girl Geek Dinners is a non-profit group that relies on the generosity of the Australian business community to fund our initiatives. We’re looking for sponsors to assist with catering costs, function room fees, gifts for speakers and guests, maintenance fees for our online profiles and web pages and any other facilitation requirement costs.

What to do

1. Email jeslowry@me.com
Say "I want to make a pledge to help support Girl Geek Dinners Melbourne."
2. We'll send you an email with instructions about how to get the funds to us. Plus background info from about the events you're sponsoring and how we’ll promote you during the event.

About Girl Geek Dinners

OVERVIEW - The Girl Geek Dinners were founded on the 16th August 2005 as a result of one girl geek who got annoyed and frustrated about being one of the only females attending technical events. She was tired of being assumed to be marketing, tired of constantly having to prove herself and decided that she just wanted a change and to be treated just the same as any other geek out there, gender and age aside. After all to be geeky is to be intelligent, have passion for a subject and to know that subject in depth. It’s not at all about being better than others, or about gender, race, religion or anything else. Those things just detract from the real fun stuff, the technology, the innovation and the spread of new ideas.

Our mission

Girl Geek Dinners aims to:

• To break down old fashioned social stereotypes.
• To identify routes around barriers to entry for anyone to get into technology.
• To encourage and nurture those interested in technology.
• To work with local schools, colleges and universities to encourage more women into the technology industry.
• To support those currently in the industry and work together to figure out the issues and the solutions.
• To include men, women and children in this journey…. and not exclude men from Girl Geek Dinner Events
