Speaker Bios

Sarah-Beth

Sarah-Beth is the Technical Product Manager of the Analytics & Data Access portfolio at D2L. She has an English Rhetoric degree that she puts to use every day by advocating for market & client needs, communicating about the excellent work her development team is delivering, and translating technical concepts into stories about the problems clients are solving with the products she helps deliver. Her secret ingredient is empathy – for her team, for her clients, and for learners whose lives are impacted by the work that D2L does.

Sarah-Beth balances her work life with the life of being a mom, a wife, a daughter, an individual. She counts herself lucky to be part of an amazing local community and a huge village of family of friends who make life sweet. Part of the balance comes from modifying her work schedule to 32-hour weeks that allow her to fully invest in her career and her personal life. A year and a half into this experiment and she can’t picture being able to achieve what she has in her career, family and personal life any other way.

Marilyn

Marilyn has more than 10 years experience bringing products and services to market as a Product Manager. As a licensed professional engineer she has experience working in a variety of fields from manufacturing to operations to simulation to SAAS software. Currently, Marilyn is a Product Manager at D2L, a leading Ed-tech company where she works closely with Product Owners, Dev teams, Designers and Senior Leaders and many other stakeholders to deliver quality software tools to Educational institutions and corporations who value learning and development. Her expertise is creating shared understanding between diverse groups, be it external customer advisory groups or internal stakeholders.

Melinda Gale

Melinda Gale is a Senior Product Designer at D2L where she brings empathy into the design and development process to deliver product experiences that users love. By deeply exploring user behaviour on a continual basis, she begins to peel away at the user's superficial exterior to reveal their core motivation that can spark meaningful connections and drive long term adoption. She aims to honour the user’s human condition in an effort to transcend human-to computer interactions to human-to-human interactions.

In her spare time, Melinda loves relaxing with her husband and baby, watching the food network and searching for the best almond milk latte.

Amber West, BA Rhetoric and Professional Writing, MA Experimental Digital Media

Amber is a Training Designer with the Resource Development team at D2L. Her academic and professional career has always been a blend of creativity, education, and technology. In her role as a Training Designer, she has found a perfect balance of the three, a career where she gets to play with the latest and greatest in EdTech and then share that knowledge with colleagues and clients through instructional videos. Amber is one of the voices behind the Brightspace Tutorials YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLSxTdOzKAFOCZjXav1aCRQ), where administrators, instructors, and learners can discover how to use the D2L products that power Brightspace solutions. She holds a BA in English, Rhetoric and Professional Writing and a MA in English, Experimental Digital Media, both from the University of Waterloo.

Bridjet Lee

Bridjet is a User Experience Researcher with a flair for in-depth interviews and a passion for making K-12 students and educators awesome.
