What we're about

Within Scottish touch there is a culture of naming clubs after fierce creatures (Bears, Lions, Leopards etc), so it only made sense that our club would follow this tradition; thus were The Chickens born - the fearsome evolutionary progression of the velociraptor. All are welcome to join the Flock!

The Chickens are open to all people interested in trying out Touch rugby, even if you're a complete beginner. Touch is a very fun and active sport, where in the mixed game, 3 guys and 3 girls play in the same team versus another team. Because it's 6 v 6, every player gets involved and nobody misses out. Being a mixed gender sport, the socials and banter is amazing and it just feels a lot more healthy, encouraging and organic than single-sex sports.

Touch is semi-contact; a 'tackle' can be literally brushing someone's hair with your finger-tips. Because of this, it does not carry the risk of full contact rugby. It is more tactical than rugby union or league, where your body weight and strength can be the winning factor; in Touch, you have to be sneaky rather than built like a tank! Hence why it's so popular with girls and people of all body shapes and abilities.

Glasgow has a very active Touch League, which runs through the Spring and Summer months, attracting upwards of 32 teams a year. After the league is over there are still numerous tournaments across Scotland and Europe to attend. Throughout Winter and Spring, we also have indoor Touch Rugby to keep us fit and healthy for the following year's league.

We have dedicated coaching staff and our team encourages an ethos of friendship and camaraderie, so whether you're after a competitive new sport or just a new group of friends with a shared activity, ours is the right Flock for you!

Stepps Touch Rugby (free, all ages, mixed men & women's sport)

Hi and welcome to our awesome touch rugby group! You've come at the right time; we're in the throes of pre-season training for the 2022 League at University Playing Fields, Stepps; the league starts mid-May. We cater for all experience levels from beginner right through to Scottish internationalist. If this is your first time, please feel at home; we have a number of brand new players looking to develop their skills alongside you!

We train at the field between Stepps Primary School and the Garfield House Hotel from 18:30-20:00. We also train on Sundays at Glasgow Green, 11:00-12:30; perfect to work off that hangover!

Google coordinates are more accurate than the map above, which doesn't let us select the exact venue! Please be at the following coordinates (copy-paste them into Google Maps):

Training sessions start with a warm-up. The session thereafter depends on the membership that day and looks at developing all levels of players; beginners will be taught the rules of the game alongside gaining valuable practical game experience. We usually finish with a wee social match.

Most of the regular players RSVP over our WhatsApp group, so please don’t be put off by the unrepresentative RSVPs here on Meetup. If you’re keen and want to join us on our quest of glory and sign up for the club, we’d be delighted; we’ll add you to the teamzone on Facebook and WhatsApp group, and you can meet the rest of the non-Meetup players.

Please feel free to ask any questions. For training, we’d recommend boots with moulded studs. If it’s dry trainers are okay, though otherwise they're too slippery.

Ok, I look forward to hopefully seeing you and I’m sure the rest of the team will be excited to have a new face come along too! Please feel free to bring friends who may also be interested; the more the merrier!

Kind regards,

David, Bronagh & the rest of the chooks!

We cater for all experience levels from beginner right through to internationalist. We train every Sunday at Glasgow Green 11:00-12:30; perfect to work off that hangover! Tuesday trainings run from 18:30 until 20:00 at the Stepps field beside the Garfield House Hotel; we usually go for a wee social there after training, if the weather's nice.

We usually go to West Bar & Brewery after training for a 'recovery drink'. Parking beside the pub is free.

Training sessions start with a warm-up. The session thereafter depends on the membership that day and looks at developing all levels of players. We usually finish with a wee friendly match.

There are usually between 8-16 of us at training (though numbers can suffer when the weather is rough!). Once signed up, most of the regular players RSVP on our WhatsApp group and come off this Meetup page. If you’re keen and want to join us on our quest for glory we’d be delighted; we’ll add you to the Facebook Teamzone and Whatsapp groups, where you can meet the rest of the non-Meetup peeps.

Please feel free to ask any questions. For training, we’d recommend boots with plastic moulded studs (no metal cores allowed in Touch Rugby as they can crushes toes and become sharp). If it’s dry, trainers are okay; it’s too slippery otherwise.

We look forward to meeting you! Please feel free to bring friends who may also be interested; the more the merrier!
