What we're about

PLEASE NOTE: FROM SEPTEMBER 2018 THIS GROUP IS NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW MEMBERS AND THERE IS A WAITING LIST. IF YOU APPLY TO JOIN I WILL ADD YOU TO THE LIST AND CONTACT YOU AGAIN WHEN A PLACE BECOMES AVAILABLE.

This is a group for anyone over the age of 25, living in or around Gloucester, who's interested in reading, discussing good books, meeting new people, and chatting over a drink or coffee. I currently run two groups for those who would like to read more, to read books outside their comfort zone, for those who are avid readers and those, like me, who read lots and then stop for ages! We spend at least an hour discussing our book but on the flip side, our members are warm and welcoming and enjoy a chat and a laugh. Please only join if you want to read and intend to come to meetings. Although we are not against romance, please be aware that those who join with the primary aim of meeting a partner may be disappointed - we are a book club.

Monday group meets at the Gloucester Irish Club, Horton Road, Gloucester. There is plenty of parking but stairs to the bar area

Tuesday group meets at a member's house in an upstairs drawing room. There are several steps in the property. On street parking.

Thursday afternoon group also meets at a member's house, there are some steps into the property. Parking on the road.

There are no criteria or rules about joining apart from:

Please bring ideas for a book to suggest. If your book is successfully chosen, you have to attend the next meeting to face the music or revel in the genius of your choice!

Fees per meeting are £2 per member.

I am reluctant to turn anyone away, but due to demand, I regularly review membership and remove those who do not attend a discussion in the first three months of joining, or who have been unable to attend for 6 months or more. Should you drop off the membership list, you will be most welcome to rejoin in the future.

Over the past year, GBC has also evolved into a film club too. We regularly see films at The Sherborne Cinema and sometimes the Guildhall, so please feel free to join in!

Look forward to seeing you soon.

Please check out our past meetings or https://book-club.org.uk/gloucester/about-u ... to see a list of our previous reads. We have a closed Facebook group, Gloucester Book Club, please do join us. This is where we do most of our posting and chatting! We're currently on Twitter too @lbookclub1 and on Instagram gloucesterbookclub.

Christina
