• Spring Back into Hiking (No experience needed)

    Dana Peak Mountain Bike and Equestrian Trails

    Celebrate the Spring Equinox with the City of Harker Heights. We will be going on a fun little hike (location: Dana Peak Mountain Bike and Equestrian Trails). No experience is necessary, we will be taking our time and enjoying ourselves. Bring comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots. This will be a great practice run for those of you who want to try their hand in backpacking. At the end of the hike Adam will set up a backpacking camp. Those of you who wish to stay and learn about camp setup; are more than welcomed to stay and participate. Instructor: Adam Trujillo (Harker Heights Activities Specialist)

  • The Minimalist Backpacking Class

    Class is open to ALL SKILL LEVELS. This class is a good way to learn how to get into backpacking cheaply and a great way to hone your backpacking skills. Feel free to bring your backpacking/ camping gear with you. No experience is required. Families are welcomed.

    Dora Clifton, owner of Goddess Armor Protection is back by request. Come learn about the latest products on the market, self defense techniques, and what to be aware of in your day to day surroundings. Bring a sister, daughter, mother, or friend and leave feeling more empowered. This program is geared towards women, however all are welcome. This event is free and open to all ages.

  • Outdoor trails with Your Pet

    Purser Family Park

    Candice Waugh of Ruff Puppy Adventures will lead us on a 1 mile hike and then take questions and give tips on obedience and socialization skills. Pet must be on a leash for the walk. Q&A will take place in the Dog Park where Dogs are permitted to be off of their leashes.

    Join us as we discover all our Parks and Recreation Department have to offer at Fun Day in the Park. July 12, 2018 from 6pm to 8pm we will host all kinds of activities in the park for kids and adults. We will conclude the evening with a movie in the Park starting at Dusk. Join us at the Carl Levin Amphitheater and catch a movie under the stars. We will be showing Jumanji as soon as the Sun goes down!

  • Harker Heights Family Campout

    Dana Peak Park

    The Harker Heights Parks & Recreation Department invites families to spend a night under the stars at the Family Campout starting Friday, May 11 – Sunday, May 13 at Dana Peak Park, 3800 Comanche Gap Rd. The campout will be an opportunity to spend quality family time together and enjoy a variety of activities including hiking, family games, stargazing, kayaking, s’mores, & more. This year you and your family will the option to start your camping experience on Friday May 11th. This additional night will be on your own, but is an opportunity to spend the entire weekend at Dana Peak. Families must bring their own tent and sleeping supplies. Check in for the campout is 3:00pm Friday, or Saturday morning. All activities provided by Harker Heights Parks and Recreation will begin on Saturday. Electricity is limited and a restroom/shower facility is located on site. This year we will have a Barbeque dinner provided by BBQ Chips Smokin BBQ, s’mores for dessert, and breakfast on Sunday morning will also be provided. Camper check out is 12:00pm Sunday. Registration begins April 2, 2018. Fee is $10 per person, ages 5 and under is free (but still must register). Pre-registration is required and can be done online at https://apm.activecommunities.com/HarkerHeightsPR or in person at the Recreation Center, 307 Miller’s Crossing by Friday, April 27 for a guaranteed t-shirt.   • View the Solar Eclipse 100 years in the making

    Location visible to members

    Join us as we view the Solar Eclipse on August 21, 2017. The first 200 people will get a FREE pair of Glasses courtesy of the Stewart C. Meyer Public Library. Bring a chair and join the watch party on the back Patio here at the Library/Activities Center, 400 Indian Trail. Glasses are available on a first come first serve basis starting at 12:30pm. No RSVP required.
