GDG stands for Google Developers Groups and is a platform offered by Google Developers to support community-run developer groups

Belfast GDG aims to provide something interesting every month either based on or related to the technology and services that Google offer. We are volunteer led, so if you have any thing you'd like to present, or you're a company that would like to sponsor please get in touch!

Hash Code Hub 2019 - UUJ

Ulster University

*Registration managed via HashCode Site g.co/hashcode register as an entrant and you can set the hub when you record your team* *Registration closes on the 25th of Feb* Register at https://g.co/hashcode and select the GDG Belfast hub when registering :) Hash Code is a team based hackathon run by Google. We're hosting a hub for the online qualification round on 28th Feb. You do not have to be a UUJ student to take part! This competition is open to everyone over the afe of 16 and all programming languages can take part FAQ can be found at - https://codingcompetitions.withgoogle.com/hashcode/faq Previous problems can be accessed (https://codingcompetitions.withgoogle.com/hashcode/archive) if you fancy a practice round :) Sadly solo entrants aren't allowed (must be teams of 2-4 participants) but if you want to take part register and then post either in the meetup comments below, using hashtag #HashCodeBelfast19 or via the hashcode channel on the ni tech slack and we'll do our best to try and connect people across the streams.

Cloud Study Jam - Kubernetes in the Google Cloud

Want to get started with Kubernetes, but don't know where to begin? Join us for our Cloud Study Jam! Get official Google training, $55+ value, free of charge. Together we'll work through several Google Cloud labs on Kubernetes. Then after our live session, you will have free access to more labs you can finish at home. Complete all labs in the quest and earn a Google-hosted badge for your online profile, and additional 30 days access to the training platform to compete any labs you want Bring a laptop and charger (PC, Mac or Chromebook)! The labs will run on all of the latest versions of the popular browsers. For the best experience, make sure your laptop has Firefox or Chrome installed. Don’t forget your charger. Google Cloud Next 19 is upon us so join us as we catch up on all the announcements and news. We're also going to have some members of the local community sharing their insights into Google Cloud First will be James Bunch. James is a Technical Architect, currently working on Big Data problems in banking. Before that, he spent 20 years building critical software systems for aerospace, defence and government clients, in various engineering roles. Title: Big Data on the Google Cloud Platform Abstract: The Google Cloud Platform offers an enticing range of technologies for building Big Data systems. In this talk, I'll describe my experience of the reality of moving from on-premise Hadoop systems to GCP. Do services like BigQuery and Dataproc live up the hype? Can the machine learning APIs scale to handle large data volumes? And how much of this is really 'serverless'?
