April meetup (Hosted by Audible)

This month's meetup will be hosted by Audible in their Newark office. There will be two talks related to design on Android.

Talk 1:

Speaker: Liam Spradlin is a UIUX designer working primarily on Android. He’s the lead designer at touchlab, and a Google Expert in UIUX. At touchlab, Liam helps partners craft Android experiences with great design as a foundational principle, whether the product is Android-first or expanding from other platforms.

Title: Mutative design and what it's like to use a mutative interface

Description: Mutative design is a theoretical design methodology that would allow interfaces and experiences to be born, live, and evolve according to a user’s realities.

With mutative design, things like physical ability, lighting, and vision are accounted for automatically, allowing interfaces to be engaging and accessible to every user, without compromise.

In this session I’ll give a brief overview of the rationale and process behind mutative design and take a look at the first mutative sample app - Selene. We’ll walk through Selene’s first mutations and explore the design considerations mutation introduces.

Talk 2:

Speaker: Ernest Grzybowski

Title: Introduction to Material design

Description: Material design has come a long way since it was introduced at Google I/O in 2014. I'll do an overview of Material for those that are less familiar and teach you about the components and strategies you can take into your day to day development cycle. You'll leave this session with a strong sense of what Material design is, and how to integrate it into your Android application.

How to get here:

1. Mass transit

Take Path trains or NJ Transit to Newark Penn Station > Take the Newark Light rail to Washington Park or look for the Audible shuttle outside the main entrance (every 10-20 minutes)

or

Take NJ Transit to Newark Broad Street > walk to 1 Washington Park.

2. Drive

There are two lots to choose from, each has a ~5 dollar parking rate for the duration of the event.
