Bundle up, Goombay fam—we’re charging into the Chesapeake for a cause! We’re teaming up for the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge to support Special Olympics Maryland. The 2026 Plunge runs at Sandy Point State Park on Saturday, Jan 31st at the 2:00pm wave.
The Goombay Team will meet at 12:00pm (specific location will be given closer to the Plunge date).## Registration & fundraising

## Why we plunge
Every dollar we raise fuels year-round sports and leadership programs for more than 25,000 Special Olympics Maryland athletes and Unified® teammates. Participants typically commit a fundraising minimum (historically $100+) to earn their spot—100% worth it for the impact we make.
## Goombay game plan
- Meet-Up Window: We’ll share our team tent location, arrival time, and group photo time once the site map & wave assignments drop.
- Post-Plunge: Warm-up at the team tent; hot drinks, high-fives, and photos.

## What to bring
- Swim gear & costume layers (fun is encouraged, safety first)
- Old sneakers or water shoes (no bare feet)
- Towel + dry, warm change of clothes (hat, gloves, thick socks)
- Trash bag for wet items; ID for check-in
- Hand warmers/blanket for the post-plunge warm-up
## Parking & entry notes
Plunge Saturday typically requires pre-purchased parking at Sandy Point; details and passes are released by organizers ahead of time—plan to secure yours early. We’ll send exact instructions as soon as they’re published for 2026.

- If you’re feeling unwell, skip the plunge and cheer—your fundraising still counts!
