Cynthia M. Gayton and Jeff “DJ J Scrilla” Clarkin will discuss commercialization of IP and other assets on the blockchain. How can federally protected intellectual property (patents, copyrights, trademarks) as well as other “assets” be leveraged for commercial purposes to enable artists and other creatives to manage their rights in their works?

From understanding basic contracting principles to intellectual property, the presenters will lead the audience from concepts to real world applications. Attendees will be introduced to bitcoin, smart contracts, assets, and distributed ledger technology.

About the Speakers:

Cynthia M. Gayton, Esq. holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs from The George Washington University and a Juris Doctor degree from George Mason University School of Law. Cynthia is a member of both the State Bar of Virginia and the District of Columbia Bar. She is the owner of Gayton Law (http://www.gayton-law.com/), in Arlington, Virginia which concentrates on small business formation, intellectual property, information technology, and business transactions/contracts. In addition, Ms. Gayton is a Professorial Lecturer in Engineering Management and Systems Engineering at The George Washington University where she has taught since 2003. She has worked for the federal government, in the private sector and for non-profit organizations. Ms. Gayton is the author of Legal Aspects of Engineering, Design and Innovation to be published by Kendall-Hunt in 2017.
