What we're about

This is a free group for grant writers, grant managers, nonprofit staff, consultants, volunteers, and everyone with an interest in grants to discuss "hot grant topics," share methods and resources, as well as network with our peers. The Grants Cafe is an in-person monthly meetup over lunch (on your own) at CoLab18 in Nova Place on the North Side. Members can informally learn and discuss all aspects of the grants field (for example: career/business opportunities, building proposal budgets, current trends in philanthropy, grants management, project budgets, development planning, common grant dilemmas, and more). Group members can expect to meet new people at varying experience levels who share a passion for grants to support nonprofit causes and communities. Everyone is welcome to contribute questions, helpful discussion points, and suggest topics and speakers between meetups. As our membership is now over 200 people, consider making an individual donation or business sponsorship of the Grants Cafe, which supports the annual cost of using this platform.

Grants Cafe-Storytelling for Grant Reports

Needs a location

Have you wondered about how to share the amazing stories of people who have benefited from program and agency funding in the grant report? How can your organization protect privacy when describing individual and group outcomes? There are many ways to tell your stories of impact. Amy Scanlon (StorySmart LLC) and Katherine F.H. Heart, GPC, M.Ed. (Heart Resources LLC) will share their best practices and examples in a joint presentation and discussion. Amy helps local, national, and international nonprofits to incorporate powerful storytelling into their donor communications. Katherine has prepared dozens of reports to foundations and federal agencies in her 17 years as a grant consultant. She presents a Grant Report Writing Workshop for the Nonprofit Resource Center at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. *This meeting was rescheduled from January* The Grants Cafe meets on the LAST WEDNESDAY of the month, except August and December when there are no meetings. Topics and speakers will be posted by mid-month. Please suggest issues you'd like to discuss, and be sure to check back regularly as we update events. Thank you!

Interested individuals should purchase the "In the Trenches: Prepare for the GPC Exam" book, as this will serve as a guide throughout the study group. Hannah and Laurie will cover all nine GPC competencies skills, as determined by the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. The group will meet the first Wednesday of every month, beginning March 6 (ending in July) from 4 pm- 6 pm at the United Way offices (1250 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15230) Please notify Laurie ([masked]) or Hannah ([masked]) if you're interested in attending or if you have any questions.
