GraphQL Sydney First Online Edition
Details
Welcome to the April edition of GraphQL Sydney! We will be online this month (and for the foreseeable future), which means that you can join in from wherever you are in the world!
Since Zoom chat is more ephemeral than Slack's, we'll make use of the #australia channel in the GraphQL Slack for chat during the meetup. You can join the GraphQL Slack via the following link:
https://graphql-slack.herokuapp.com/
It will be BYO pizzas and drinks for the time being, but we still have some great talks lined up for you that will make it worth the low cost of free admission!

GraphQL @ :Different
Matt Valley :: @mehdivk
Different has been using GraphQL at Different for the past year or so and Matt is keen to share their journey so far as GraphQL addresses multiple business/technology problems for them. This is simply a "Success Story" or "Case Study"; Matt would like to share Different's problems and how they are actively addressing them using GraphQL.

A GraphQL survival guide
Petra Gulicher :: @petronbot
Petra will present "A GraphQL Survival Guide", originally prepared for ReactConfAU 2020.
The talk runs for approximately 20 minutes and covers some of the things she learned as a tech lead tackling GraphQL projects over the last two years:
- How to find and mitigate slow queries
- How schema design is like domain modelling
- What error handling looks like in GraphQL vs REST
The talk is skewed towards a front-end audience but will be useful to people of all experience levels with GraphQL.

So, come along and enjoy a great night with your fellow GraphQL enthusiasts!
Look forward to seeing you there!
Paul, Josh, James
