What we're about

GraphQL is a data query language and runtime designed and used at Facebook to request and deliver data to mobile and web apps since 2012.

There are server and client tools in many languages and integration with many frameworks (not just React!).

GraphQL in September: Nader Dabit (AWS) and Jon Wong (Coursera)

We took the summer off, but we're back with a huge event! Two of our speakers are visiting Toronto just for us! 🌟🌟🌟 Thanks to Shopify for providing the venue and sponsoring food and beverages for the event! Shopify has been pushing GraphQL forward since the earliest days and they’re all-in on GraphQL, using it at a huge scale. We have had many great talks from Shopify folks over the years. Check out https://www.shopify.ca/careers 🌟🌟🌟 🎤 TALKS 1. Nader Dabit (AWS) - Curious Cases of GraphQL As GraphQL moves into the mainstream, the tooling & ecosystem has grown and has made it possible to do much more with GraphQL than using it as just a data layer. In this talk, I'll show how developers are using GraphQL as an API gateway and prototyping infrastructure as code to develop in ways that you may have never thought possible. Nader Dabit is a Developer Advocate at AWS, he's a well-known trainer, author, and there's a very good chance that you have used some of his tutorials or read his blog posts: https://twitter.com/dabit3 2. Jon Wong (Coursera) - GraphQL in Every Language JavaScript gets all the fame, but GraphQL exists in many forms in different paradigms, programming languages, and frameworks. I want to take a brief look at implementations in different forms, see what common threads exist, what differences there are, and the people and communities driving them. Attendees should learn about the different approaches to GraphQL, like schema-first, code-first, classes, and what the impact of different programming paradigms have on the implementations. Jon Wong is a a Senior Software Engineer on the Frontend Infrastructure team at Coursera. https://twitter.com/jnwng 3. Lightning talk TBD - please contact us if you're interested in speaking! ⏰ SCHEDULE 6:00pm - Doors open. Grab something to eat and meet fellow GraphQL enthusiasts. 6:30pm - Opening announcements. 6:35pm - talks begin 8:30pm - Goodbye, and please give us a hand cleaning up the space! 👉 Note that the schedule is subject to change and accommodates short breaks between sessions. 👉 Interested in speaking or sponsoring? Please contact the organizers for more information. All skill levels are welcome for talks! 👉 See you there!
