Who Should join:

Tired of simple "lectures" on Islam and looking for more discussion? Interested in voicing your own opinions on faith and hearing the thoughts of your peers? Then perhaps Grassroots Islam is the place for you.

The Grassroots Islam Objective:

The basic gist of Grassoots Islam is to hold monthly (or bi-monthly) events where different Muslims from the community volunteer to lead discussions on critical topics of their interest. These discussions aren't meant to be like the usual "halaqah". Rather, they can range from anything like a personal reflection on faith or a scholarly work to the more unconventional topics like the place of doubt in Islam or a critique of gender issues in the community. The point is to create a venue where ALL members of the Muslim community--regardless of where they fall on the theological spectrum-- feel welcome to offer their own thoughts, ideas, frustrations, and reflections to a community that wants to hear them.

Meetup Description:

Each meet-up will consist of a 15-20 minute presentation from one of our speakers, followed by 45-60 minutes of open discussion from everyone attending. Events will take place on the campus of Rice University.
