New Meetup: HIKE & BIKE....Volo Bog & Moraine Hills

From: user 8.
Sent on: Sunday, September 12, 2010 7:01 PM
Announcing a new Meetup for NW Burbs Camping and Adventure Meetup Group!

What: HIKE & BIKE....Volo Bog & Moraine Hills

When: Saturday, October 9,[masked]:45 AM

Where: Volo Bog State Natural Area
28478 W. Brandenburg Road
Ingleside, IL 60041

What better place to be than Volo Bog and Moraine Hills to watch the fall colors!! Although this event has two parts, you don't have to do both. Moraine Hills State Park is only 10 minutes from Volo Bog.

We'll start off the day with a 5 mile hike at Volo Bog. This is a very unique area. Volo Bog is a registered National Natural Landmark. The scenery is hilly with marshes, prairies, forests, and a boardwalk through a bog. The hike is easy to moderate.

HIKING....We will meet in the visitors center parking lot at 9:45. Bring water and snacks. Dress according to the weather. Hiking time should be about 2 hours.

BIKING....From Volo Bog we'll drive only a few miles over to Moraine Hills State Park. We'll park at Pike Marsh. For those of you only doing the bike event, meet us here by 1:00pm.

This is a very beautiful park. What you will see is what the glaciers left when they receded over 15,000 years ago. The trail is 11 miles of crushed limestone. Expect moderate to difficult riding. We'll stop along the way and visit the Mchenry Dam as well as wildlife viewing platforms. This event should last until approximately 4pm.

Hope to see you there!
