Join fellow Java Proggers this month for a round of Lightning Talks & Open Discussion.

Lightning Talks are 10-15 minute presentations from group members on a topic they're interested in sharing with the group. Topics can include:

• A project you've worked on, and want to share.

• Quick presentation on a Java or JVM based technology.

• Programming Paradigms, Methodologies.

• Share your experiences within the industry. This could be how you identified a problem or project at work, and how it was solved with technology. This could also include sharing your experiences in different roles such as QA, Engineer, Tech Lead, and Architect.

• Share something you learned. It doesn't have to be something trendy or new!

We've all heard the terms "frontend" and "backend" developer. What do we mean by these labels? If you asked 5 people to define these labels, you'd get 5 different answers. This talk will help you understand the nuances of frontend and backend development of modern applications.

Topic: Approaches to Testing

Unit, Integration, End to End, Smoke, Failover, Load... The list of test types and approaches goes on and on. I'll attempt to hit on the major test types, test approaches, and their reasons for existing. I'll also go over some common roles within a development team

Topic: Scala

Scala is the most popular JVM functional language. In this talk I will try to go through everything I know about Scala; including brief language features, development environment, ecosystem, and how to keep up!

If you'd like to do a lightning talk, just send me a meetup message with your name, title of the talk, and and a short topic description. All submissions are welcome, you don't need to be an expert! You can even share your experience of learning something new!
