CIYC Monday Night Sailing Meetup
The first Monday night sail was such a success, we have decided to do it again!
It will be held on Monday evenings through August and early September.
This Meetup is geared for those interested in sailing as a sport for cruising and racing. All levels of experienced are invited to attend.
1-It will be a hands on sail with all expected to participate in the sailing of the boat. This includes being physically able to trim sails and helm. If there are ability concerns, we must know beforehand in order to choose the appropriate vessel. The J/24 is a competitive race boat and requires a higher level of physical ability. The Catalinas and other boats are cruising boats and more suited to those that with less experience.
2- No alcohol permitted either before sailing or during. The sailors will gather for social hour after the sail at a local pub.
3 - The number of Skippers anticipated in this has now grown to 6 and more are expected to participate. We anticipate being able to have 20 Meetup members participate.
4- There are several Skippers involved in the Club Boat Timeshare Program that are expected to participate. We will try and accommodate all that want to participate.
5 This will be on a 1st come, 1st served basis. Participants will be matched with a Skipper based on skill level. Skippers will always have final call on crew and weather conditions. We do not sail in winds over 15 knots. or if storms are predicted.
6- Participants should bring soft soled, non-marking sneakers, or boat shoes, hat, and sunglasses. A rain jacket, windbreaker, or foul weather gear and sailing gloves would also be good to have. Crew should expect to get wet depending on the choice of boat and conditions. Bring water, as hydration on the boat is a must.
7- Emails will go our to Skippers on Sunday evenings to determine the number of boats and crew spots available. The MeetUp email will go out Monday AM mid morning or before 12 noon after a detailed weather study is completed.
8-City Island Yacht Club, 63 Pilot St, City Island, NY 10464. Some GPS programs list it as the Bronx. Driving and mass transit directions are at Cityislandyc.org (http://www.cityislandyc.org). The BxM8 bus runs to City Island along Madison Ave to get you to the Club by 6 pm.
9-RSVP and Registration is through EMAIL ONLY at cityislandyc2016@gmail.com
10- This is a rare opportunity to sail with experienced sailors on their own boats. No shows will be excluded from future events.
