Details

It’s officially looking like Spring! Following the success of our first event, I'm delighted to confirm that the second monthly Afterwork Networking will be held at The Volunteer - a relaxed and centrally located pub, just minutes from Baker Street station and Regent’s Park.

To lead our discussion about one of the biggest concerns in the fashion and textile industries, we have two fabulous guests of honour: Bronwyn Lowenthal, founder of ethical women's fashion and accessories company, Lowie (http://ilovelowie.com/), specialising in winter hand knits and vintage-style clothing, and Seraphina Davis, co-founder of contemporary British-made eco luxury womenswear label, Nancy Dee (http://www.nancydee.co.uk/webshop/).

The theme of the evening will be:

Raw Materials & Ethics In Textiles Products

- Natural Raw Material Choices

- Agriculture / Livestock Farming / Crop Growing

- Separation of fibres - where environmental and ethical issues can arise.

Format

The evening will take an intimate interview-style format with our inspiring guests of honour, who will talk us through their incredible journeys and secrets to success. You will also have a chance to ask them your questions one-to-one, and mingle with the other attendees. This is an incredible opportunity to find out what it takes to run a successful eco fashion brand and get answers to your burning questions on all the nitty gritty details. We'll also be bringing along some of our beautiful Offset Warehouse fabrics for you to look through and exchange sewing ideas with like-minded individuals.

Tickets

This is a pre-purchased ticket event, with one glass of prosecco included in the ticket price (usually £6 per glass). Additional food and drink are available for purchase at the venue. Tickets are refundable if cancelled at least three days before the event - this will give us ample time to open the space to another attendee who can take your place.

Why?

The business of fashion is exciting but can also be intimidating and isolating; that’s why we’re bringing people together from all different areas of the creative industries, with a passion for style with substance and sustainability. We can’t wait to re-connect with some familiar faces and meet a variety of new people - anyone from students, to fashion designers, to full-time parents, to business owners are welcome.

About Our Guests of Honour

Bronwyn Lowenthal is a self-confessed entrepreneurial spirit. Laying importance on humanitarian and environmental issues, such as threats to virgin wilderness and poor treatment of factory workers, Lowie is an eco friendly brand providing unusual knit items such as dungarees and tea dresses influenced by Bronwyn’s formative years in Australia and the traditional handicrafts she has discovered travelling the world.

Bronwyn will talk us through her journey from supplying House of Fraser with traditional Turkish knitted accessories to producing a 50 piece Lowie collection every season, worn by celebrities such as Erin O’Connor and Lily Cole, and why she believes it’s important to recycle, upcycle and make use of all resources available to us. We are also thrilled to welcome Seraphina Davis, co-founder of contemporary womenswear label Nancy Dee.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, specialising in versatile jersey pieces, Nancy Dee is known for its stylish selection of printed and plain dresses, jackets and trousers.

Seraphina will be joining us to discuss the ethical womenswear business she has grown with her sister Tamsin, and their shared dedication to using eco-friendly materials, minimising waste in pattern cutting, and complying with strict UK and EU working standards.

We will also be talking about how designers can take steps towards building a sustainable an ethical business, by looking out for international standards and guidelines that indicate suppliers’ commitment to animal, environmental and human welfare.
