Come join us for the monthly meeting of the Greensboro chapter of the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII.com). We meet the 3rd Saturday of the month (except December) at 10 am at the Griffin Rec Center on Hilltop Rd. AAII is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing unbiased, actionable financial education for all. We do not sell anything. Come join us and start or improve your financial literacy and investment skills with other like-minded individuals.

TOPIC: The Fed, central banks, and interest rates The Federal Reserve seems to have retreated from its campaign to normalize interest rates and the size of its balance sheet. John M. Simms, Jr., Ph.D., CFA, will explore to what extent the Fed and other central banks now find themselves hostage to their prior actions. What have been the economic and financial market effects of 10 years of experimental policy? As investors, how do we think over the long term and manage risk when the emotions of fear and greed hold alternating sway over many financial market participants? WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: How central bank actions since the financial crisis have impacted the economy Why valuations make this a difficult environment for investors Strategies investors can employ to dampen volatility and achieve long-term goals in the face of uncertainty SPEAKER: John M. Simms, Jr., PhD, CFA. Chief Investment Officer, Piedmont Trust Company. He has been counseling clients in wealth management firms for the past quarter of a century. Prior to serving clients in family office and boutique advisory firms, Simms spent four years on Wall Street in proprietary trading and eight years teaching finance at undergraduate and graduate levels (UVA & UNCG). He is passionate about providing investment education to clients, colleagues and friends. He earned his B.A. in religion from Davidson College and a Ph.D. in finance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Simms is a holder of the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation from CFA Institute. Level 3 Investing/What Works on Wall Street: Update (Actual Results)

TOPIC:Personal Investing: Level 3 Investing SPEAKER: Allen Rembert is life time member of AAII and a founder of the Greensboro Chapter. He founded Carolina Cipher, an ERP software and service company in 1977 and managed it until September, 2014. In addition, Allen has been a successful, active investor since the late 1980s. In recent years he has focused on quantitative trading strategies. TOPIC: In 2017, Allen presented an overview of trading strategies in the book "What Works on Wall Street" by James P. O'Shaughnessy. Also, in 2017, Allen opened a brokerage account with approximately $200,000. He invested all of those funds using three (3) trade strategies based on the principles in "What Works on Wall Street". In 2018 Allen presented the results of his 10 month's experience using trade strategies from What Works on Wall Street. Now, nearly another year has passed and Allen will present his second update on this trading strategy. Let's see how he did!
