This hands-on workshop will invite residents of Staten Island and visitors to co-create impromptu art in a community mapping exercise. How can Staten Island be re-imagined? Which artistic interventions and inventive play spaces are working best? How do Staten Islanders visualize themselves in relation to their neighborhoods?
Participants are asked to bring an item to "leave behind" as part of a larger montage about identity. This could be anything from a photo, sketch, diary entry, or something they create on-site to help contribute to a living archive about mapping and experiencing Staten Island.
GreenspaceNYC develops, hosts, and curates participatory events, classes, and workshops about sustainability that run the gamut from art-making & sustainable architecture to food studies & urban agriculture. We offer these varied educational events in the hopes of building a network of committed participants interested in sharing information on sustainable practices to the broader public at free or little cost.
GreenspaceNYC is sponsored by Fractured Atlas and Material for the Arts (NYC Office of Cultural Affairs).
