What we're about

Greenwich Writers' Group is for adults (18+) interested in creative writing, living in or around the London borough of Greenwich. Writing can be an isolating process so this group has been set up to connect like-minded individuals. Meet-ups involve critiquing each other's work, discussing writing matters and upcoming competitions. We also have Saturday meetups where we simply bring a laptop and write in each other's company. As an aid to getting published we arrange meetups with Agents from time to time.

Upcoming events (5+)

Meet to critique work submitted by members

The Guardhouse Woolwich

£5.00

The purpose of this meeting is to provide and receive critique on submitted extracts of members' creative writing, whether they're working on a novel, screenplay, poetry, a memoir or short story, etc. We share our extracts via email ahead of the meeting to give us all a chance to read the work in our own time and reflect upon it so as to be able to provide useful critique. If you are new to the group we ask that you participate in at least two of the Wednesday critiquing sessions before you submit work for review so that you get to know us and have a good understanding of how we operate. This will help you to get the most from a critique of your own work. Please email your extract (approx 3000 words or under) to [masked] by the Saturday before the meetup so that I can share your work with the rest of the group. We have a limit of 4 extracts per session to give adequate time to review work properly. Feel free to give guidance on any specific areas on which you would like feedback. E.g. Plot, pacing, structure or character development etc. Each extract will be critiqued by the group according to the schedule below. The group is friendly and relaxed, so please don't feel nervous about sharing your work! Schedule of evening: 7:30pm - 8:10pm: Extract 1 8:10pm - 8:50pm: Extract 2 15 minute break 9:05pm - 9:45pm: Extract 3 9:45pm - 10:25pm: Extract 4 (Note: We'll normally critique the extracts according to the order in which they are sent to me but if you need a particular slot let me know when you submit your extract and we will try to accommodate that.)

Pitch Your Novel to Literary Agent Ludo Cinelli of the Eve White Literary Agency

If you sign up for this event, please ensure you send Andrew James your personal Mobile no. and email address in order that he can contact you should any details change, or a cancellation occur. Email to [masked]. No submission materials are required in advance as Ludo has requested blind pitches on the evening, however it is advised you bring these with you for reference or in case they're asked for. Before applying, your novel should be complete (or very near to) and polished so it is ready to submit. Ludo has stated that he is open to submissions from all genres, but especially literary fiction and non-fiction. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone with a completed manuscript to pitch directly to an agent from a major UK literary agency and receive instant feedback. There are limited spots available and we'll operate on a first come first served basis, so book quickly to avoid disappointment. If you're not lucky enough to get a spot, drop me a message and I can add you to the waiting list in case of a cancellation. Please keep an eye on the group as we've more events planned.

Bring your laptop and work on your own material in convivial company.
