What we're about

Greenwich Writers' Group is for adults (18+) interested in creative writing, living in or around the London borough of Greenwich. Writing can be an isolating process so this group has been set up to connect like-minded individuals. Meet-ups involve critiquing each other's work, discussing writing matters and upcoming competitions. We also have Saturday meetups where we simply bring a laptop and write in each other's company. As an aid to getting published we arrange meetups with Agents from time to time.

Online Meetup to critique work submitted by members

Online event

£5.00

Due to the Corona virus, this will be an online session. We have subscribed to Zoom so there will be no Zoom cost involved for you in signing up. We are also giving our usual meetup charge to a local Foodbank. Here's the link to that: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/greenwichwriters Having said that, please only sign up if you really intend to take part as we will have to strictly limit numbers. I will send out the extracts on Wednesday 12th August together with the invitation to the Zoom meeting for those who sign up. While the invitation will allow you to download the app when you respond to it, might I suggest that you register on Zoom's site prior to the meeting as this will enable you to install the app and check that your mic and sound are properly calibrated. The purpose of this meeting is to provide and receive critique on submitted extracts of members' creative writing, whether they're working on a novel, screenplay, poetry, a memoir or short story, etc. We share our extracts via email ahead of the meeting to give us all a chance to read the work in our own time and reflect upon it so as to be able to provide useful critique. If you are new to the group we ask that you participate in at least two of the critiquing sessions before you submit work for review so that you get to know us and have a good understanding of how we operate. This will help you to get the most from a critique of your own work.

Bring your laptop and work on your own material in convivial company.

The Guardhouse Woolwich

£1.00

This meetup is still free. You will be refunded if you attend. The £1 is simply to dissuade people from signing up and not attending.

Please email your extract (approx 3000 words or under) to [masked] by the Saturday before the meetup so that I can share your work with the rest of the group. We have a limit of 4 extracts per session to give adequate time to review work properly. Feel free to give guidance on any specific areas on which you would like feedback. E.g. Plot, pacing, structure or character development etc. Each extract will be critiqued by the group according to the schedule below. The group is friendly and relaxed, so please don't feel nervous about sharing your work! Schedule of evening: 7:30pm - 8:10pm: Extract 1 8:10pm - 8:50pm: Extract 2 15 minute break 9:05pm - 9:45pm: Extract 3 9:45pm - 10:25pm: Extract 4 (Note: We'll normally critique the extracts according to the order in which they are sent to me but if you need a particular slot let me know when you submit your extract and we will try to accommodate that.)
