What we're about

An acoustic guitar circle by the beach! Pull that old guitar out of the closet and dust it off! This group is for all levels of acoustic players (guitars, banjos, mandolins, ukuleles, harmonicas) and singers who are interested in sharing music in an open, non-judgmental setting outside where we can watch the sunset! We take turns leading/choosing songs. If you don't feel comfortable leading a song when it's your turn, you can ask someone else to lead the song of your choice or just pass. If possible, bring copies of chords and lyrics to share for songs you want to play.

What kind of music? Whatever the members bring! Folk, pop, rock, jazz, country - we just want to keep it playable with no more than four or five basic chords (i.e. C, F, G, D, A, E, Am, Em, Dm) per song. While this is not a setting for guitar lessons everyone should be willing to help, encourage, and celebrate each others efforts and willingness to join in, and most of all have fun!

We have a dropbox for sharing pdf files with lyrics and chords:

The goal is to hold the circle at the "Old Snack Shack" by the beach in Madiera around sunset weekly. Let's enjoy the sunset have fun making music! (By popular request we moved off the sand and onto the deck of the Snack Shack.)

Guitars at Sunset - Watch/Listen/Relax!

Seminole City Park

Watch for updates on location! We may have to move if the red tide is a problem going forward...

With the red tide continuing to be a problem, we're moving to Seminole City Park. It's a very pretty location. This is a "bring your own chair" and drink activity. Park rules say "no alcohol". We'll meet in the band shell unless it's been taken. If that happens we'll grab one of the small shelters. Moving the start time to 6:30 since the park closes at dusk.

If you would like to join us for the our Monday evening jams but would prefer to just listen and enjoy the sunset then please sign up to connect with others looking for the same.

Remember that the jams are casual and not performances, just some fun sharing music. You don’t have to be a star to sing along! (Hint: we try to do “When the Sun Goes Down” and would love everyone to join in!)

Unfortunately parking is not free. I use the WayToPark app rather than put my credit card in the machine in the parking lot.

I listed this for two hours, but stay as long as you like! Often the jams continue until fingers start falling off... :)

If you do stop in please say hello to the jammers!

Sunset Acoustic Jam

Seminole City Park

Please watch for updates as we may have to change location depending on the red tide!

For now we're planning on meeting in the bandshell in Seminole City Park. It's a very pretty setting next to a large pond. Free parking. No alcohol. The park closes at dusk so I'm moving the start time back to 6:30.

You will need to bring a chair in addition to your music stand, stand light, etc. Some bug spray might be needed.

*****************

Time to make some music! All skill levels welcome!

If you want to attend but just listen and enjoy the sunset then please RSVP to the parallel Listen/Watch/Relax meetups!

This is an acoustic only meetup and is not limited to guitars. We have regular ukulele participants and have had banjos, violins, harmonica, singers, and even an autoharp join the jam! I usually bring an acoustic bass and a tiny amp for it so it can be heard, but technically no amplification is allowed after sunset. If you're a bass player I would happily relinquish playing bass!

A music stand and light are a good idea - we are outside and once the sun goes down there is not adequate lighting! Stand lights work great and it's great to see the twilight sky! Clips to hold your music are recommended as it can get breezy!

Unfortunately the parking is not free. I use the WayToPark app rather than put my credit card in the machine.

Please bring a couple of song sheets (chords & lyrics) if you can - enough copies to share. We take turns choosing/leading songs - you can lead or ask if someone else can lead the song of your choice, or pass - there is no pressure, we just want everyone to enjoy the jam! We keep it casual and fun! Song sheets from past meetups can be found in our dropbox at https://www.dropbox.com/home/Guitars%20At%20Sunset

That said, the sunset, the music, and perhaps an adult beverage should make for a good evening!

Please message me if you have any questions!

Hope to see you there!!!
