Blockchain and Innovations in Governance
Details
Hi, everyone: please notice the time change. Something came up at work and I can't make it tonight.
Details to be sorted out. Come discuss innovative applications of blockchain technologies to governments, big and small, old and new.
Some reading material to get started with:
-- "Your Next Government? From the Nation State to Stateless Nations" by Tom Bell. Not about Blockchain itself but about improving the current model of government (large, bloated democratic republics) in many different ways.
-- "The Dictator's Handbook: Why Bad Behavior is Almost Always Good Politics" by Bruce Bueno de Mesquita and Alistair Smith. This isn't about cryptocurrencies or blockchain, but by recognizing the flaws in current systems we can start to figure out how to reduce those flaws.
-- The original BitCoin white paper. This is the white paper that, AFAIK, started it all. It's not best source for lay-people, but it'll help to round out your reading.
-- "Introduction to Ethereum" on the Ethereum website. It's looking like, for the moment, Ethereum is the third most traded cryptocurrency and may have the most active community. It's also being "plugged into" quite a lot of enterprise software stacks and may rise to the top of the crypto fray.
-- Tether and its shenanigans. It's looking like Tether has been at the heart of some (alleged?) market manipulation schemes.
-- "The Truth Machine: The Blockchain and the Future of Everything" by Paul Vigna.
-- "Blockchain and Suitability for Government Applications" from the US Federal Gov.
-- Anything that YOU suggest! Seriously, I'm trying to figure this out as much as the next person and would appreciate any input from y'all.
