What we’re about
The aim of this Meet Up is to help people approach and appreciate the psychological ideas of the Gurdjieff Work. This is a public discussion forum rather than a "lecture style" meeting. However, it mixes both elements. The intended form of the meeting is:
• Each meeting lasts about 90 minutes.
• Meetings are led by a member of the group, usually the group leader.
• Each meeting is themed around the discussion of a particular concept from The Work.
• Questions and exchanges of ideas are invited and welcomed.
• The intention is that attendees acquire a deeper knowledge of The Work from the meeting.
It is advised that only people who have some familiarity with The Gurdjieff Work (for example those who have at the very least read about it) attend. The meeting assumes at least a little knowledge. However, It is not absolutely necessary to have read any of the books written directly by Gurdjieff, but experience of this may help.
The Meet Up is usually led by Robin Bloor. His lineage is that he was (from 1988) a pupil of Rina Hands, who was herself a pupil both of P.D. Ouspensky and G. I. Gurdjieff.
He is also the author of the two books; To Fathom The Gist Volume 1: Approaches to The Writings of G. I. Gurdjieff, and To Fathom The Gist Volume 2: The Arch-Absurd.
Gurdjieff's magnum opus, Beelzebub's Tales to His Grandson is, perhaps, the only example of Objective Literature available to us in our time. Reading it requires both effort and knowledge, but it is accessible.
