Hiking Weekend at Hufman Lodge @ Laurel Hill State Park, Somerset, PA
Details
Join me for a 3 night hiking weekend at Hufman Lodge in Laurel Hill State Park. Laurel Hill State Park consists of 4,062 acres of mountainous terrain in Somerset County. The 63-acre Laurel Hill Lake is a focal point of the park. Laurel Hill is surrounded by thousands of acres of pristine state park and state forest lands. A trail system invites visitors to explore the park and observe the diversity of plants and wildlife. The Jones Mill Run Dam and the Hemlock Trail Natural Area are two must-see destinations on your visit. There are 15 miles of hiking trails within the park. The Laurel Highland Hiking Trail ( LHHT) a 70 mile hiking and back packing trail, is also close by. I plan on hiking a 13 mile stretch of the LHHT on Friday April 21st. In addition to hiking, there are bike trails, and options for white water rafting in the area. The Flight 93 Memorial from the September 11th attacks is also in the area in Stoystown, PA 15563.
This trip is for moderate to advanced hikers only and you need to be able to hike 12-15 miles a day to attend this trip. No beginner hikers.
This is about a 3.5 hr drive from Valley Forge Park. Carpooling is encouraged.
