Hey, Hey, Synergist!

Here's our DAY OF reminder of October's HCx3DP/Health Maker Lab (HML) Meetup: THIS Evening, TUESDAY, 25 OCT at our usual venue, CityScience in DUMBO (Huzzahs for Thor & Team at CitySci (http://cityscience.org/)).

We'll be talking about: • Health Maker Lab "doings,"

• Our recent exhibit at World Maker Faire (http://makerfaire.com/new-york/), (I have our 3DP'd, table-top, print-out examples to show you),

• Dying and Living in the Neighborhood (https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1421420449/wnycorg-20/)...(book resource to help guide our HML local deployments),

• One of CitySci's latest tools, a MakerBot, large build-platform, Replicator Z18 (https://www.makerbot.com/replicator-z18/),

• AND, our newest HML resource-for-building (book):
"MAKER CITY, A Practical Guide for Reinventing Our Cities (http://makercity.com/)."

This last is the brand-new book---co-authored by Dale Dougherty of Maker Media fame---that speaks directly to the implementation of "Maker-related" programs like HML. Further, it targets our same venues and neighborhoods of need: Ultra-Urban Communities (in places like NYC).

Another great add to our HML Working Library.

So, Synergist, looking forward to seeing you this evening in DUMBO! RSVP & donate here...

Greetings, Synergist!

Here's another reminder of our October HCx3DP/Health Maker Lab (HML) Meetup: TOMORROW Evening, TUESDAY, 25 OCT at our usual venue, CityScience in DUMBO (thank you---as ever!---Thor & Team at CitySci (http://cityscience.org/)).

This get-together will be an easy-going affair with a casual agenda and lots of time to talk and network. Come and add your ideas, queries and value.

I'll update you on our latest HML doings. Plus, a little after-action from our exhibit during World Maker Faire (http://makerfaire.com/new-york/) at the beginning of the month. (For more new &/or exciting local Maker resources, see Maker Faire's "New York Maker Week 2016 (http://makerfaire.com/new-york/maker-week/)" Agenda.)

And, I'll fill you in a little on one of our most interesting new HML-focused tools:

Dying and Living in the Neighborhood: A Street-Level View of America's Healthcare Promise (https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1421420449/wnycorg-20/), (the new book) by Probhjot Singh, MD, PhD, Director of the Arnhold Institute for Global Health, Chair of the Department of Health System Design & Global Health at the Mount Sinai Health System in Manhattan.

Hey, Synergist!

Yes, the exasperating, enervating and ill-making Campaign stumbles towards its ineluctable end. Tonight's third---and blessedly!---last Presidential Debate promises to outrage every sense and sensibility.

SO, allow me to offer some antidotes of this moment for your betterment...

(1) "What's the Big Deal with Big Data (http://brooklaw.imodules.com/controls/email_marketing/admin/email_marketing_email_viewer.aspx?sid=1286&eiid=2661&seiid=1948&usearchive=1&puid=62dc59a3-a648-4c63-a4a7-c1af093b9bca)," Brooklyn Law School offers a Panel Discussion & Networking Reception, this evening at its complex in Downtown Brooklyn---

Through the good offices of one of our Health Maker Lab (HML) Advisory Council members---Tech Law Professor Jonathan Askin---you're invited to attend this event gratis. (As the Networking is scheduled to end by 8:30 PM, you'll still be able to nauseate before some screen or another---should you care to. Yes, yes, yes: I'll be there with you...)

I happen to believe Big Data will heavily influence everything we're going to do together at HML, in BioTech and via Digital Fabrication in general. Come learn the latest on the topic...

(2) "Medicine Can't Cure Poverty (http://www.wnyc.org/story/medicine-cant-cure-poverty-10-11/)," Brian Lehrer interviews Probhjot Singh, MD, PhD, Director of the Arnhold Institute for Global Health, Chair of the Department of Health System Design & Global Health at the Mount Sinai Health System and author of the new book Dying and Living in the Neighborhood: A Street-Level View of America's Healthcare Promise in a 13-minute podcast from Brian's 11 October on-air show.

Reading this book---right now---I believe this new perspective "brings sociology to bear on the issue of treating chronic disease among low-income Americans," as the inestimable Mr. Lehrer would have it. At HML, we've designed a Health Public-Policy Observatory to help address many of these same needs---in parallel with our HML empowerment of Citizens and Citizen Scientists at the hyper-local community MakerRoots...

(3) Dying and Living in the Neighborhood: A Street-Level View of America's Healthcare Promise (https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1421420449/wnycorg-20/), (the new book itself)by Probhjot Singh, MD, PhD, Director of the Arnhold Institute for Global Health, Chair of the Department of Health System Design & Global Health at the Mount Sinai Health System.
