Our next meetup will take place on Monday November 5th at Google with talks from more amazing women who work with data! Our speakers will share their inspiring career stories with us. We’ll have great talks from female data scientists and women passionate about analytics so come along, ask questions and meet other women who love data!

Speakers:
Dr. Sowmya Karunakaran (@Sowmya_Karu) is a Senior Researcher at Google Dublin. Sowmya’s primary research interest is in studying and modelling the impact of user’s cognitive biases and behavioural irregularities on decision-making. In her current role, she uses various quant and qual methods to study human computer interaction problems in the domain of online spam and abuse with emphasis on ethics. Sowmya received her PhD from Indian Institute of Technology and has an MBA from Indian Institute of Management. Prior to that she has played multiple roles involving software development, project management, business analysis and consulting for several Fortune 500 companies. She has published several research papers and presented at IEEE and AIS conferences.
Jo O'Donovan is the Head of Analytics at Eir. Jo is a technically proficient and commercially aware professional with 13 years’ experience in management and analytical roles. A specialist in Business Intelligence, Reporting and Analytics she has an extensive academic background in all key disciplines, and holds a First Class Honours Masters in Information Technology Management, as well as degrees in IT Management and Technology Management. She has worked mainly in constant changing environments with a high demand to adapt quickly and be open to new ways of working. Jo is passionate about everything she does and works hard to create environments where people can achieve to the best of their ability. In her role as Director of Analytics in eir, she manages a team of analysts and data scientists focused on discovering business insight hidden in complex data sets. Her passions outside of work are basketball, cooking and family!
Elayne Ruane (@ElayneRuane) is a PhD Student in UCD with Lero, the Irish Software Research Centre where she researches testing methods for Converstational Agents such as Chatbots. Elayne was exposed to Data Analytics and Python during the final year of her undergraduate degree in Accounting and the rest was history. She went on to complete a Conversion Masters in Computer Science in UCD and then began her PhD research. In addition to her PhD, she is working on a project that leverages Augmented Reality to translate between Irish Sign Language and English with the goal of improving accessibility for ISL speakers in ad hoc situations.
